Essential Metrics
There are three metrics that are essential for digital marketers to pay attention to and they can be remembered by the acronym "ABC":
Acquisition-related Metricsmeasure how you get your website visitors. These metrics include users, new users, and sessions. Users include visitors who initiated at least one session during a given date range. New users is the number of unique visitors in a specific date range. Sessions are all user interactions within a time frame. Acquisition reports are an excellent way to see which areas bring the most traffic to your site.
Behavior-related Metricsmeasure how people behave when they land on your website. They help you understand user behavior patterns and include bounce rate, exit rate, pages per session, and session duration. Bounce rate tracks activity when a user visits your website and then leaves without visiting another page. Exit rate is how often a user has left your website from a single page. Pages per session is the average number of pages users view on your website during a session and session duration is how long they stay.Using this metric, you can see if visitors are actually taking the actions you want them to take.
Conversion-related Metricsmeasure how many people take a certain action after landing on your website, revealing how many users convert and how much revenue you get. This includes e-commerce conversion rate, transactions, and revenue. E-commerce conversion rate is the percentage of visitors who complete a purchase on the site. Transactions provide insights into the number of customer purchases, the average value of the transactions, and the total revenue generated from sales. Revenue is the amount of money you generate from the transactions on your website. Using this data, you can make adjustments to your site to improve the process it takes to get the customer to your company's end goal (online purchase, registration, phone call, etc).
